Education and Experience

After finishing medical school at the University of Bonn (Germany) in 1974, I started my career at the Anatomical Institute where I taught medical students and performed research in neuroanatomy. Following the completion of my Ph.D., I became board certified as a psychiatrist in 1981 and received my diploma in Cognitive Behavioral and Insight Oriented Psychotherapy in 1985. I continued to research the effects of high dosage neuroleptic medications on chronic schizophrenic patients. Subsequently, I gained additional experience in psychiatry at the Bethlehem Royal Hospital in London and returned to Germany to start a private practice.

I moved to the United States in 1985, where I received additional training in psychiatry and psychoanalysis. After finishing my residency as Chief Resident at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ, I served as the director of outpatient services at the facility for 3 years, where I supervised residents and worked with seriously mentally ill clients.

During my time at Maricopa Medical Center, I pursued an education as a psychoanalyst at the Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute, where I received a Doctor of Psychology with emphasis on psychoanalysis.  Afterwards, I served as a consulting psychiatrist and psychoanalyst at the Center for Transitional Neurorehabilitation at St. Joseph's Hospital - Barrow Neurological Institute.

I have worked in my private practice since 1997.
